About the Raman Young Science Innovator Award
The Raman Young Science Innovator (RYSI) Award is a prestigious national-level science competition that encourages students to explore scientific concepts through hands-on experimentation and creative problem-solving. Open to students from Grades III to X, the award promotes experiential learning by inspiring young innovators across India to apply scientific principles beyond textbooks and classrooms.
Participants are required to design and demonstrate simple yet impactful science activities, models, or experiments that effectively communicate core scientific ideas. Entries are evaluated by expert panels based on originality, depth of scientific understanding, creativity in approach, and the use of easily available materials, making innovation accessible and inclusive.
With a multi-stage selection process and participation from schools nationwide, reaching the national finalist stage is a significant accomplishment. It reflects a student’s ability to think independently, innovate responsibly, and demonstrate strong conceptual clarity—qualities that lie at the heart of the Raman Awards’ vision of nurturing future scientific minds.
The Journey to the National Finals
The path to becoming a national finalist at the Raman Young Science Innovator Award is both rigorous and inspiring. The competition follows a three-stage selection process, beginning with preliminary submissions, followed by national qualifiers, and culminating in the live national finals. At each stage, students are assessed on their ability to demonstrate scientific concepts through original, hands-on innovations developed independently.
With participation from schools across the country, the selection process draws from a large and diverse pool of young innovators, making advancement at every level highly competitive. Emphasis is placed on creativity, conceptual clarity, and problem-solving skills, rather than rote knowledge. Those who progress to the final stage earn the opportunity to compete at Panchavati, Bengaluru, the historic residence of Sir C. V. Raman, where innovation meets legacy.
